A brief account of the AFLP

Since its foundation in 2004, The Australian Fishing and Lifestyle Party (formally The Fishing Party Queensland) has made some significant changes to government polices and even Australian law. Whether it is a local issue in Queensland or a nation wide concern, the AFLP is dedicated to challenging them all the way to Canberra.

In membership stakes it is now one of Queensland's biggest political parties and growing. With an excess of over 1000 members, the AFLP is gaining a reputation as a small but somewhat powerful organisation with a voice that rings loud in the political forum.

To date it has been involved in many issues mainly concerning the North Queensland area but is now spreading its wings nationwide to deal with an over zealous and oppressive green movement that is sweeping the country. Without interruption, these extreme environmental groups, some of which are USA based, could very much take away what we as Australians have grown to love....the great outdoors and our accompanying recreational past times.

PAST INVOLVEMENT:

• Land based business restructure assistance for damage to industry by the zoning in the Great Barrier Reef (GBR)

• The legislative change to remove mandatory criminal convictions for fishing in a green zone on the GBR

• Opposition to a commercial pontoon that was to be located at Arlington Reef

CURRENT INVOLVEMENT:

• The Coral Sea conservation zone

• Wild rivers

• Cape York heritage listing

• Short and long fin mako and porbeagle shark capture prohibition

The AFLPs track record thus far has been successful to the point that without its involvement in the aforementioned issues, they would never have made it to the level they did, or have, without its help. The AFLP is determined to continue its struggle against such matters as they arise and to use its voice for the people it supports.

It is about preserving the environment that we love and maintaining it so we can continue to enjoy it responsibly.
